Matt Spicer’s first script, The Ornate Anatomy of Living Things, co-written by Max Winkler, landed on The Black List and was optioned by Fox Searchlight. By 25, he had produced his first feature and sold his script (The Adventurer’s Handbook, co-written by Max Winkler and Jonah Hill) to Universal Pictures.
His directorial debut, Ingrid Goes West, starring Aubrey Plaza, Elizabeth Olsen, and O’Shea Jackson Jr., premiered in competition at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival and earned the 2018 Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature. His latest film, The Ick, has Dan Levy and Elizabeth Olsen attached and is slated for production later this year. In 2024, he directed American Horror Stories starring Henry Winkler.
Having conquered the worlds of TV and film, Matt expanded his creative reach into commercials. On the branded front, he has worked with companies like Apple, Pepsi, Spotify, and Citi—just to name a few. His work has been recognized by a multitude of awards, including One Show, Clios, AICP, Shots, and the Webby Awards.
