Lloyd Lee Choi
Lloyd Lee Choi is a Korean-Canadian writer/director living in Brooklyn. His short film, SAME OLD (2022), had its World Premiere at the 75th Cannes Film Festival as part of the main competition, the only US film to be accepted in the line-up of 9 films. It went on to premiere at Toronto International Film Festival (Special Jury Mention), Melbourne Int’l Film Fest, New York Film Fest, and Seminci. SAME OLD also won 1st place at the 2022 HBOmax APA Visionaries awards and won Best Short of Festival award at Raindance. He is currently developing the feature adaptation with Destin Daniel Cretton’s company, Family Owned.
Lloyd’s recent short film, CLOSING DYNASTY (2023), was supported through the Future Gold Film Fellowship as 1 of 3 filmmakers selected by Netflix, Tribeca, and Gold House. CLOSING DYNASTY World Premiered at the 73rd Berlinale and then went stateside for SXSW ‘23.
Lloyd was also named 30-under-30 by Marketing Magazine and has directed global campaigns for brands like Google, Chevrolet, Sony, and Nat Geo. He balances his work slate with socially conscious projects, writing and directing short films and PSA’s for ACLU, Zappos, AARP, and Stress Health. Passionate about representation in front and behind the camera, he is deeply driven to highlight the minority and immigrant experience – one rich with new and compelling stories to tell. Stories that reflect the real world around us.
